Bio

City Riots is generally so busy playing live that it took over two years before they found the time to record a full-length album. In May 2009, The South Australian group flew to Chicago to record with legendary producer Bjorn Thorsrud (Smashing Pumpkins, Dandy Warhols, Billy Corgan). After spending four meticulous months in the studio crafting the sound, the group shipped the final mixes over to Richard Dodd (Kings Of Leon, The Raconteurs) in Nashville to be mastered.

In late 2008 the band self-released the Socialize EP in Australia, which garnered significant airplay through Triple J, ultimately leading to them being nominated for Triple Js Unearthed Artist of the Year award. The first track from the EP, Burning Me Out, was recorded in the US at Dragonfly Studios on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. It was the band's sixth track to have picked up national radio airplay even though they had yet to have a proper release until this EP. Released through MGM Distribution, Socialize included a remix of Signs by Cobra Starships' Alex Suarez.

Prior to the EP, the group self-pressed an untitled EP that was recorded in its hometown of Adelaide and completed at Birdland studio's in Melbourne. Following a swag full of national and international supports, the band delved into festival appearances including Big Day Out and the Soundwave Festival as well as appearances on MTV and Channel V. The indie four-piece flew overseas to play the Great Escape Festival in the UK after Martin Elbourne (former agent of New Order, The Smiths) and booker for Glastonbury immediately confirmed City Riots after watching the band perform just a few weeks beforehand. On short notice, the band was playing sideshows at the Camden Barfly and the International Pop Festival in Liverpool. Following the three-week British tour, the group came back for a brief Australian run before heading across the Pacific to play a five-week tour of the United States, taking in Milwaukee's Summerfest with The Bravery, Wave Gathering Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey and a load of shows along the east coast. It was the band's second US tour in the space of eight months.
